Rutland County Council will shortly be implementing the increase to on and off-street parking charges that was approved at Full Council earlier this year. Parking charges in Rutland have not been updated since 2019.

From 9 January 2023, the price of a one-hour ticket in Council-owned car parks will increase from £1.00 to £1.10. The price of a day ticket will increase from £4.80 to £5.30.  Yearly season tickets will rise from £553 to £608.

The offer of 30 minutes free parking in all public car parks will remain. Motorcycles will be required to pay in car parks, while Blue Badge holders will be able to park free of charge for up to three hours. Parking in the Kilburn Road Coach Park will become chargeable.

Administration fees for on-street resident parking permits will increase from £40 to £50, which equates to around 17p per restricted day. Other on-street permits which were free of charge will be chargeable at £20. Suspension and dispensation fees will increase from £25 to £37.50.

“Parking charges are important because they help to encourage a healthy turnover of parking spaces for shoppers and visitors, as well as discouraging illegal parking and unnecessary car journeys. They also help to pay for providing a parking service at a time when all our costs are increasing. Our parking charges have remained unchanged for the past two years but must now be updated.”

Councillor Rosemary Powell, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport

In addition to contactless payments at ticket machines and RingGo payment options via smartphone, telephone and text, car park users are able to pay by cash or card at PayPoint outlets in both Oakham an Uppingham.

Details of where to go to pay for parking with cash can be found on our Parking pages.
