Annual Reviews of Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP)

The annual review is the statutory process of looking at the needs and provision specified in an EHC Plan, and deciding whether these need to change.

The Annual Review is an opportunity for school, parents, children and young people and anyone working with your child to come together to talk about your child’s progress and decide whether the Plan needs to be changed.

The first review of the Education Health and Care Plan must be held within 12 months of it being finalised or within 6 months if your child is in the Early Years stage. From then on, reviews must be held within 12months of the previous review.

Although the overall review process is the Local Authority’s responsibility, some of the process is delegated to the school or other education provider – this means they will usually organise and lead the review.
