Wraparound childcare is vital for some parents to enable them to work or study knowing their child is cared for in a fun environment where they can play games, have a snack and even do their homework. It is an opportunity for children to spend time with their friends in a relaxed environment away from the classroom environment. School’s existing enrichment and extracurricular offers can interact with, complement and support delivery of wraparound childcare provision.
Wraparound childcare can be offered on a school site by the school or an independent provider or close to the school in a childminders home or at an out of school club, nursery or pre-school that also offers childcare for older children.
Schools should signpost parents to wraparound provision when asked and parents should not be required to pick up or drop off their children between the core school day and wraparound childcare.
