Rotaract Family Support Centre (RRFSC) aims to provide social, recreational, educational and therapeutic support to children and young people (0-25) with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), and their families.
Based in Oakham, we organise regular activities during term-time: this currently includes swimming, riding, drumming lessons, Friday Club, and Family Support drop-in sessions. We also organise a range of school holiday activities and social events such as- stay and play sessions, days out, chat and chill at local parks, summer picnics, Christmas meals, nature walks, crafts.
The Family Centre is managed by the Trustees and executive committee, all of whom are volunteers. Therefore, all our funds go directly towards providing activities and support for families who could not access this elsewhere. We are the only local provider of this type of support for Rutland families.
This is what the Family Centre means to some of our users:
“These activities are important to me because they have given me a chance to socialise with other young people, improve my confidence and self-esteem, and give me some time away from the family!” Young person aged 18
“Swimming was extremely stressful for him as he walked through the water trying desperately to keep his head and hair dry. The transition over the past year from wading to swimming over a length has been inspirational.” Parent of a 10-year-old.
If your child has special needs and you would like to join in any of our activities, please contact us at rrfsc@hotmail.co.uk.
