Getting online
If you're not sure how, or where, to start, Age UK offer advice on accessing the internet. Age UK also have a handy glossary of online terms.
If you can't access the internet at home, Oakham Library, Uppingham Library offer free computer and WiFi access. If you can access the internet but you want to connect to faster broadband, read Rutland County Council's advice.
Staying safe online
Rutland County Council offer advice on staying safe online, including information for parents.
Age UK and Citizens Advice have both published information on detecting and avoiding scams.
Barclays' Digital Wings platform covers many topics, including online security.

Making the most of being online
Developing your online skills:
- Rutland Adult Learning & Skills Service (RALSS) offers tailored one-to-one sessions and accredited qualification courses.
- Age UK offer Digital Skills and Computer Know How sessions at Oakham Library and Uppingham Library.
- Learn My Way has free courses for you to learn digital skills to stay safe and connected.
- Green Smartphones have created a Smartphone Basics Explained page on their blog to explain how to use your smartphone.
Things to do online:
- Register with your GP to book appointments, order prescriptions and more.
- Pay, report and apply online using Rutland County Council's Online Services.
- Manage your borrowed books and eBooks through Rutland Libraries' website.
- Trace your Family History. Ancestry and FindMyPast are free to access in Rutland libraries, and guided Family History sessions take place on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings in Oakham Library.
