Future plans for Electric Vehicle Charging in Rutland
In addition to the electric chargers already installed by Oakham Town Council and Uppingham Town Council and by commercial enterprises around the county, RCC is working with OZEV to apply for centrally funded community chargers - especially in areas that do not have off street parking.
The first stage of this will see up to 30 charging points (15 sites with 2 bays per charger) installed at various locations around Rutland. Whilst exact locations have not yet been finalised a potential shortlist has been compiled and the 15 required sites will be selected from these if they are technically viable.
The work to identify suitable sites is underway and will involve the local community as well as internal Rutland County Council departments and the charge point operator who will advise on technical feasibility.

The first chargers will be installed by March 2025 and the remaining will be installed over the following 18 months.
The chargers will be owned, operated and maintained by an established charge-point operator Wenea.

Where can I charge my Electric Vehicle?
If you do not have off street parking then the public charging network is recommended. Local chargers can be found using Zapmap or local Rutland Chargers can be found on the Wenea website.
For safety reasons currently Rutland does not allow
- cables trailed from the home to a vehicle if the cable crosses the path or other public highway even if covered by a mat or cable cover
- installation of a cross pavement gully to hide or protect the cable from other road and pavement users
- installation of a private chargepoint overhanging or on the street outside their home

(These solutions will be reviewed regularly as central government guidelines are updated.)
