Site Allocation Assessment 2024
The aim of the site assessment process is to help determine which sites are the most suitable for allocation for development in the Local Plan. The process has been undertaken in the following stages.
Stage 1 is the preparation of a Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) assessment to provide the “long list” of sites for assessment. Stage 1 includes an initial assessment of sites to screen out those with a “show -stopper” constraint or which are not located in accordance with the emerging spatial strategy.
Stage 2 comprises a detailed assessment of remaining sites not screened out by Stage 1 above. Stage 2 has been separated into 2 parts with Stage 2a) assessing the effect of potential development of a site against a wide range of environmental, social and physical criteria using a red, amber, green assessment. Stage 2b) goes on to consider any potential constraints in detail alongside advice from technical experts and using planning judgement to consider the suitability of a site for allocations.
