Your green waste collection service

From 1 April 2022 you will need a new green waste subscription sticker to have your green bin to be emptied.

If you subscribed between 31 January and 25 February 2022, your new stickers will be delivered in the last week of March 2022.

If you subscribe after 25 February 2022, your sticker will arrive from the last week of March onwards. Please allow a minimum of ten working days after subscribing for your sticker to be printed and sent out before your first scheduled collection.

Green bin stickers

Once you've subscribed, we'll send you a new sticker to display on your bin.

Your sticker(s) will be sent in the post and cannot be collected from our offices.

Green bins that don't display the new 2022 sticker won't be collected after 31 March 2022.

Once you’ve received your sicker(s):

  • place each sticker on the back of each green bin, just below the handles, as shown in our guide - make sure the bin is dry and clean and remove any old stickers if necessary. Press the sticker down firmly to make sure it is well stuck down.
  • place each green bin at the edge of your property with the handles facing the road by 7am on collection days

Please read the terms and conditions before you sign up for green waste collections.

If you don't want to renew your green waste subscription, your green bin will not be emptied after 31 March 2022.

Alternative options for disposing of green waste include home composting, or taking your waste to our household waste and recycling centres

Green waste FAQs

Why is the price going up?

We do not make a profit from charging for green waste collections - the funds we receive from the annual subscriptions are used to pay for the cost of providing the service.

The costs of providing the service are increasing this year because the current contract with Biffa ends in April 2022 and a new overarching waste service contact is due to start in April 2024.

This new contract will address new legislative demands and modern working practices. In the meantime a two year contract extension has been put in place which unfortunately means a significant rise in the cost of providing the collection service.

These additional costs are necessary to pay for new and refurbished vehicles, and to improve driver and operative remuneration rates, both of which are essential maintain and improve the collection service.

What if I want more than one green bin?

You can have more than one green bin under the new Service, with each one costing:

  • £48 if payment is made over the phone (discounted to £45 if payment is made online)
  • £48 if payment is made by cheque

How will you know to empty my green bin?

You will be sent a sticker for each green bin subscribed for and only green bins displaying these stickers will be emptied.

When can I sign up?

To have your green bin emptied from 1 April 2022 you need to sign up for the service before Friday 25 February 2022.

You can sign up for the 2022/23 service later in the year and up until 30 November 2022.

If you sign up part way through the year the full annual cost will apply.

Can I cancel my subscription part way through the year?

Yes, but no refunds will be given for cancelled subscriptions.

If you currently have an assisted collection, this will continue.

What if I need a replacement green bin?
