The application process for starting primary school for the first time in September 2023 will open in Rutland mid-October 2022, when full details will be available on this page of our website.
Children who were born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019 will be eligible to start primary school in September 2023 and parents must submit an application to their 'home' local authority. This means that an application must be submitted to the Council where you live, even if you want to apply for a place at a school in another local authority area. For example, if you live in Rutland but want to apply for a primary school in another county, you must submit your application to us. If you do not live in Rutland but want to apply for a place at a Rutland school, you must apply to your own Council. Please check your own Council's website for details of how to submit an application.
Our online application portal will be open to Rutland residents and will allow you to submit up to 3 preferences of primary school, located in any local authority area. We advise that you use all 3 preferences when submitting your application. The video below explains how your preferences will be processed.
The national closing date for applications will be 15 January 2023.
An information brochure will be available which will explain the process of applying for a primary school place along with information about primary schools in the Rutland area and where you can find further information.
In the meantime, if you have any queries about the primary school admissions process, please contact the Admissions Service:

Before submitting your application it is important to note that the application form will allow you to submit up to 3 preferences of primary school. We strongly encourage you to use all 3 preferences so that your child has the best opportunity of receiving an offer at a preferred school. Submitting a second and third preference will in no way affect your chances of receiving an offer at your first preference school. The video below explains how your preferences will be processed.
