Economy and Employment

The Economy and Employment directories form part of the evidence base to support the preparation of the Local Plan Review.

The Employment Land Assessment and Review form part of the evidence base to support the preparation of the Local Plan Review.

The Employment Review assesses whether the existing local plan policies on employment, tourism and the rural economy remain up-to-date and in accordance with the latest government policy and guidance. The review establishes where additional evidence base work will be needed.

The Employment Land Assessment Update assesses the supply, need and demand for employment land and premises in Rutland over the 21-year period to 2036 and makes recommendations to the Council as to the future approach to employment land provision in its Local Plan.

The Retail Review and Retail Capacity Assessment Update form part of the evidence base to support the preparation of the Local Plan Review (link to webpage).

The Retail Review (2015) assesses whether the existing retail policies in the local plan remain up-to-date and in accordance with the latest government policy and guidance.  It establishes where additional evidence base work will be needed.

The Retail Capacity Assessment (2016) updates previous capacity evidence. Its purpose is to provide:

  •  an updated assessment of the vitality and viability of the two main centres of Oakham and Uppingham;
  • an updated assessment of the quantitative and qualitative ‘need’ for additional retail floorspace in the County over the period to 2036; and
  • recommendations to the Council in respect of its future approach to retail provision in its Local Plan.

The Oakham and Uppingham Parking Sufficiency Study forms part of the evidence base to support the preparation of the Local Plan.

This study provides details of data collection surveys and subsequent analysis to establish the nature and extent of parking related issues in Rutland's market towns.
