Oakham Castle is one of the finest surviving examples of Norman architecture anywhere in England.
The Castle recently underwent a £2.2 million restoration thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
This money was used to:
- preserve the castle’s ancient defensive wall
- carry out repairs to the Great Hall, including a new Collyweston Slate roof
- improve facilities for weddings and functions
We’ve also introduced an exciting events programme for history lovers of all ages, as well as new interactive displays that tell the story of Oakham Castle over the centuries.
The Castle grounds are open to enjoy all year round.
