Rutland is England's smallest county but has a wealth of local history and heritage. Travel around the county and you will find Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlements, Oakham Castle, a former royal forest, ancient churches, stone-built villages and two historic market towns.
Rutland Libraries hold many Local & Family History materials in their collections. Visit the library catalogue to find out more.
The Rutland Local History and Record Society is the umbrella organisation for Rutland’s heritage community, and publishes a regular journal of local history research, the Rutland Record.
The Friends of Rutland County Museum and Oakham Castle support the county’s museum through fund raising, volunteering, events and advocacy.
