Homelessness
We have a duty under the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 to help you if you're at risk of losing your suitable accommodation with 56 days.
Steps we can take to relieve homelessness are:
- to help you secure suitable accommodation, regardless of whether you're 'intentionally homeless' or priority need
- give eligible households help to find accommodation
If neither of these steps work and you remain or become homeless:
- if you're in priority need, you retain your rights to be housed
- if you're non-priority, you are not entitled to any further help
We must make sure that everyone can get free information and advice on preventing and relieving homelessness - particularly vulnerable groups, including:
- victims of domestic abuse
- people with mental ill health
- prisoners on release
How to get help

If you find yourself in an emergency situation with nowhere to stay and our offices are closed, please contact our out of hours service on 01858 464 499.
We'll ask you some questions when you get in touch and depending on your circumstances, you may be offered accommodation. This could be outside of Rutland.
You'll need to visit our offices on the next working day for an assessment of your situation and for housing advice.
