Your health and happiness

We want to support you to be fully prepared for parenthood.

You talked about the anxiety being assessed by social workers before your baby was born caused.  We recognise this is especially difficult when you’ve had social workers yourself.

You asked if your personal adviser could attend meetings with social workers about your child(ren), to support you in understanding what’s happening – we will make sure this happens.

Your personal adviser will also support you to go to parenting groups and visiting a children’s centre, or organise for someone to go with you if you live a distance outside of Rutland.

We’ll also give you with a starter pack of all the essentials you need for your baby.

Visions Children’s Centre

Visions Children’s Centre in Oakham offers a range of groups and activities to support you and your child.

We run courses too, including a Bumps to Babies antenatal course and baby massage.

Setting up home allowance for parents

If you’re a parent or expectant parent, you could get an allowance (in addition to the setting up home allowance) when you move in to your first independent home.

The allowance is to help with the extra household costs of a child and may be paid if you cannot get help from another source.

To get this allowance, your child(ren) must live with you.

If you’re entitled to the allowance, it will be paid no earlier than 11 weeks before your baby’s due date.
