Struggling to pay?

If you're finding it hard to pay your Council Tax, it's really important that you get in touch with us - we may be able to help you.

We want to work with you to avoid taking recovery action, if we can. Our team has lots of experience in helping people in this situation.

When you get in touch, you'll need to tell us why you're finding it hard to pay and what you think might help you to get back on track.

We may contact you directly to offer you support - if we call you, it will be from a number that ends in 121: 01572 XXX 121.

Council Tax hardship relief

In exceptional circumstances, we may be able to reduce the amount you pay for a short time.

To ask for hardship relief, get in touch with us to let us know:

• why you're struggling to pay
• the amount you want to claim

You'll need to provide evidence, and we may need to ask you for more information.

Council Tax Discretionary Fund

Discretionary funding awards are a short term measure to help people suffering from financial hardship.

We cannot pay funds if you have other money available, or you cannot prove you're experiencing severe financial difficulty.

To get funding, you must:

• receive Council Tax support
• live in Rutland
• be able to prove you have a financial need

You can also get funding if own an empty home in Rutland and are suffering severe financial hardship.

How to apply

Download and complete the application form, then return it to us. We may need to ask you for evidence to support your application.
