Marriage and civil partnership ceremonies

Apply for a copy marriage certificate

We can only provide marriage certificate copies for marriages that took place in Rutland.

If the ceremony took place outside of Rutland, you'll need to contact the council for that area. If you don't know the district, you can apply to the General Register Office.

You'll need to give:

  • the full names of the people who got married
  • the date and place of the marriage

Copy certificates cost £11 each, plus a £2.50 postage and packing fee.

You can email the details, your name and phone number to registrars@rutland.gov.uk or call us on 01572 758 370 (you may need to leave a message) - we'll call you back as soon as we can.

We can take payment by debit or credit card and will post the certificate(s) to you within 48 hours.

For marriages registered before 1837

Civil registration began on 1st July 1837.  Before this date, the church kept records for births, deaths & marriages.
