Extra help with paying council tax

Who can get extra help?

To get discretionary funding you must be:

  • Receiving council tax support; and
  • Reside in Rutland; and
  • Be able to demonstrate that you have a financial need

Or

  • Be an owner of an empty home in Rutland who is suffering from severe financial hardship

Discretionary funding awards are intended as a short term measure to help in difficult circumstances. 

Some examples of when discretionary funding can be paid

  •  The household is suffering from severe financial hardship and this is clearly demonstrated

Some examples of when discretionary funding can’t be paid

  • Alternative funds are available
  • No evidence is provided of severe financial hardship

How to apply

You will need to provide as much detail as possible about your situation. We may ask for evidence to support your application.

What happens next?

When we have made a decision, we will write to you to let you know.

If you disagree with the decision, you may appeal within one month of the date of the decision notice. For further details please refer to the Council Tax Support Discretionary Fund policy
