Tell us your circumstances have changed

Tell us about any change to your household that could affect your Housing Benefit payment

We need to know about any changes in your household that could affect your Housing Benefit payments as soon as the change happens.

This is so we can make sure you don't lose money you're entitled to or receive too much money which you'll have to pay back.

Examples of changes

You should tell us straight away if:

  • you change address
  • your tenancy changes
  • you get a new landlord
  • your rent goes up or down
  • who we pay changes
  • you change jobs
  • you earn more or less money
  • your savings change
  • you get more or less of any other benefits
  • your partner's income, benefits or savings change
  • someone moves in
  • someone moves out
  • you stop or start paying for childcare
  • the amount of childcare you pay changes
  • you stop receiving child benefit

Download the Benefits Change of Circumstances Form and return to benefits@rutland.gov.uk or post to Benefits, Rutland County Council, Catmose, Oakham, Rutland LE15 6HP.

Change of circumstances and Universal Credit

Some changes in circumstances will mean that you can claim Universal Credit 

If any of these changes apply to you, you'll need to make a claim for Universal Credit straight away - if you delay, you may lose money:

  • you become responsible for a child for the first time
  • you move out of work in to work
  • you move from in work to out of work
  • you move from sick to out of work
  • you move from sick to in work
  • you move from in work to sick
  • you have a child who reaches the age of five
