Appeals and disputes

If you think a decision we have made about your Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support is wrong you can dispute it. There are different rules for each benefit.

Housing Benefit Appeals

Write to us within one month of receiving our letter telling us that you disagree with the decision and your reasons why. For instance, have we used incorrect information or have we applied the rules incorrectly?

We will reply telling you that we have either changed the decision or cannot change it. If we do not change it you can write and ask us to send it to the Tribunals Service.

Council Tax Support Appeals

If you disagree with the decision you can write to you and tell us why. For instance, have we used incorrect information or have we applied the rules incorrectly?

We have two months to reply to you either changing the decision or telling you we cannot change it. If we do not change it or do not reply within the two months you can appeal directly to the Valuation Tribunal.
