Social distancing at markets

Date Published: 27 March 2020
Uppingham Market

We understand some concerns have been raised about the extent to which social distancing guidelines are being observed at outdoor markets.

We strongly urge everyone to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

Shopping for food and other essentials should be done as infrequently as possible, while observing social distancing advice at all times.

The government has issued specific guidance asking food market operators to consider how they can safely sell their products without encouraging crowds and ensure hygiene measures are in place.

For more information, please see the government's coronavirus website.
