LRF thanks businesses and communities for their help with PPE

Date Published: 09 April 2020

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Resilience Forum (LRF) is saying thank you to the local businesses and communities which are working tirelessly to support the ongoing need for personal protective equipment (PPE) in the fight against coronavirus.

Local companies, schools, colleges, universities, charities and community groups are working together to help with the supply and distribution of PPE to frontline staff who need it – in hospitals, care settings and other locations across the city and county.

They are also being urged to keep up their vital work so that we can continue to help protect key workers against coronavirus.

“Doctors, healthcare workers and carers risk their lives every day providing essential services to our vulnerable and sick. They must be protected to be able to continue their essential, life-saving work. I’m incredibly proud of the way Leicester is tackling this threat to all of us, and we are so grateful to the many people who have come forward to help provide and distribute PPE. We are obtaining supplies from many different sources, but the need for PPE isn’t going away – we have stocks, but we will always need more.”
Peter Soulsby, Mayor of Leicester

“The response across the county has been unprecedented and we thank each and every one of you for your support.  This equipment helps key workers to support our most vulnerable people in their homes, in hospitals and in care homes. People across the county have joined together to provide a vital, practical and lifesaving response to this crisis.”
Nick Rushton, Leader of Leicestershire County Council

"It has been wonderful to see businesses and communities in Rutland and Leicestershire joining forces and adapting to support our health and social care workers to get the essential equipment they need. We know that we all need to work together in these challenging times, and the response from our rural and urban communities has been a fantastic example of what teamwork can achieve.”
Oliver Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County Council

Examples of PPE already being provided include a Leicester window film company which has repurposed its manufacturing process to make protective visors for frontline staff.

“I’m always amazed by the resourcefulness and ingenuity of our business community here in in Leicester and Leicestershire, and I’m confident that they can rise to the challenge of supplying PPE to the NHS and make a tangible contribution to the fight against coronavirus.”
Kevin Harris, Chair of the LLEP Board of Directors

There is always continual need for more PPE. So if you can help provide appropriate PPE - whether by donating your own stock, or by repurposing your manufacturing processes – please get in touch. Help is also needed with delivery and distribution of PPE items.

You can deliver PPE donations to any fire station in the city, county or Rutland. For details of where they are, please visit the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service website. Always adhere to government social distancing guidelines when travelling.
