Keep healthy and active at home

Rutland County Council is pointing people to free sources of advice and helpful tips to stay healthy and active at home.

Following the announcement of new government guidance around coronavirus (COVID-19), everyone in the UK is now being asked to stay at home, except for very limited purposes. 

This means that people are now required to either self-isolate or follow strict social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, protect the NHS and save lives.  

With everyone now limited to one form of outdoor exercise each day – such as a run, walk or cycle – the Council is seeking to make people aware of other ways to stay fit and active, without having to leave home. 

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) have launched a new Healthy At Home resource to assist in creating a healthy lifestyle for those now self-isolating or staying home. 

This includes a dedicated Healthy at Home website that hosts resources, links, hints and tips. 

You can also find this advice on social media by searching for the hashtag #HealthyAtHome.

Sport England

Sport England have also put together a range of different ideas on how to stay active in and around your home. From dancing with the kids through Change4life to online home workouts, there’s lots to choose from.

Local groups

If you participate in any local physical activity groups or sessions which have now been placed on hold due to COVID-19, contact your instructor to ask if they have alternative resources available, such as home videos or plans to continue with your workouts at home. 


Specifically for children, Change4life and Disney have teamed up and created Disney inspired 10-minute shake up games. These 10 minute bursts of activity aim to get children moving and count towards the 60 minutes of physical activity they need every day.

NHS Live Well

The NHS has also created a selection of 10 minute workouts which require no equipment and are great to do at home.
