Oakham Library is set to receive an exciting new member as Joseph Coelho, award-winning children’s author and poet, drops in for a special visit on 6 August at 11am.

The visit is part of a challenge that Joseph has set himself to join a library in every library authority in the UK. The library marathon aims to promote local libraries and celebrate the work they do. Mr Coelho has written a number of popular books, including Luna Loves Library Day, which explores the author’s own love for libraries.

Staff at Oakham Library will be on hand to greet Joseph and provide him with his new library card. Residents are encouraged to attend the open event and find out more about the services offered by their local library.

“We are very excited to be welcoming Joseph Coelho to Oakham Library and delighted to support him on his nationwide quest. Oakham Library is at the heart of the community and does so much to support residents of all ages, backgrounds and interests. We hope the visit will encourage more people to find out about the Library and perhaps even inspire a new generation of writers. Whether you’re a fan of Joseph’s work or keen to find out more, I’d encourage you to come along, enjoy the event and discover the wonderful services the Library can offer you.”
Councillor Lucy Stephenson, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure

Joseph will plot his progress on a map on his website. He will also tweet and blog his journey around the UK.

Membership of Rutland Libraries is free to join and are open to anyone who lives, works, studies or is visiting the County – so even if like Joseph you’re not a resident in Rutland, you can still get access to a great range of books, information and services.  You don’t have to be a best-selling author - pop along and join up today.

Rutland Libraries are currently taking part in the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge, which challenges children between the ages of 4 and 11 to borrow and read any six library books over the summer. The theme for 2019 is the Space Chase, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

Find out more about Joseph’s visit and summer events on the Rutland Libraries website.
