Informal consultation around early proposals for the redevelopment of St George’s Barracks in Rutland is being extended, with the addition of several new information events out in local communities.
The very first high-level plans setting out possible options for the future redevelopment of St George’s Barracks were published on Friday 11 May, with residents invited to share their views as part of a public consultation.
Following initial feedback from local Parishes and members of the community, the Council and Ministry of Defence (MOD) have extended the consultation period to 15 June 2018, giving people longer to comment on the draft plans.
A further four public information sessions have also been added to the St George’s roadshow currently making its way around the county:

“The high-level masterplan for St George’s Barracks is the earliest indication of what might be possible on this site after the army leaves and given that the MOD is required by government to use the land to make a significant contribution towards national housing targets. This is about encouraging people to view the draft proposals, learn more about the detail behind these early plans – which are by no means final – and then give their views on the suggestions being put forward for discussion. Some of the early feedback we’ve received has been about the length of the consultation itself, from people who would like to have more time to view the proposals and comment. We’ve responded to this feedback straight away, extending the consultation by a further two weeks and adding more events where people can come and speak to us in person about St George’s. I hope this will be beneficial for our residents.”
Oliver Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County Council
Full details of the high-level masterplan for St George’s Barracks can be viewed on the St George's website, along with dates and times for all consultation events.
All feedback received as part of the consultation will be used to help in the development of a more detailed plan for the site, which is due to be vacated by the army by 2021.
