Following Britain’s success at this year’s World Athletics Championships, the race is now on to find Rutland’s best and brightest local sports stars as part of the Active Rutland Community Sports Awards.

Nominations for Active Rutland’s sixth annual community sports awards are now open, giving people across the county the opportunity to celebrate those who demonstrate sporting excellence.

The awards, sponsored by Tarmac, recognise local clubs, teams and sports people, as well as, coaches and volunteers for their achievements and contribution to community sport during the past year.

Active Rutland hopes that local people will get involved in celebrating all that is great about sport in Rutland by nominating people they know – people who have played an important part in a year of sporting success.

“Sport is such a big part of our community and Rutland is ranked number one for adult participation in sport England, with the number of adults playing sport increasing every year since 2012. We’re also seeing an increasing number of younger people getting involved in the sporting community and last year we decided to honour them by adding two new award categories, young disabled sportsperson of the year and young volunteer of the year. We hope that you will join us in celebrating Rutland sport by nominating your local sporting heroes.”Cllr Alan Walters, Portfolio holder for Sport and Recreation

“We’re delighted to be continuing our sponsorship of the Rutland Community Sports Awards in 2017 and look forward to a special evening celebrating the accomplishments of clubs, organisations and individuals from across the County.”Peter Hyde, Director of Highways Services at Tarmac
