Residents in Barleythorpe are being given the chance to play an important role in shaping the future of their local area following the decision to create a new Barleythorpe Parish Council.
Final Recommendations from Rutland County Council’s Community Governance Review of Barleythorpe and Oakham North West were approved in January and stated that a new Parish Council would be created for Barleythorpe.
Transitional arrangements are now being put in place until an election of Parish Councillors in May 2018. This includes the creation of an Interim Council made up of local residents and businesses – people who will help to get the new Parish Council up and running.
“This is an exciting opportunity for people in Barleythorpe who are public-spirited and want to help shape the future of their community. The Interim Parish Council will have all the powers of a standing Parish Council so representatives will have an important role to play. We want to hear from anyone who lives in Barleythorpe, has an interest in local governance and wants to make a real difference.”
Councillor Oliver Hemsley, Portfolio Holder for Resources
There will be a total of eight members on the Interim Council for Barleythorpe, including the two Rutland County Councillors for Oakham North West: Cllr Richard Gale and Cllr Alistair Mann.
Expressions of interest are now being sought from among the Barleythorpe community to fill the other six places. Anyone interested in applying should provide their name and contact details, a summary of relevant experience, details of any specialist knowledge or expertise and the reason why they are interest in the position.
The deadline for expressions of interest was 20th February 2017 and has now passed.
If we receive more expressions of interest than there are vacancies a selection process will be carried out by the Council’s Constitution Review Working Group in consultation with Ward Members. Six candidates will then be put forward for Full Council to approve on 13th March 2017.
Further information about expressing an interest for the Interim Parish Councilcan be obtained by emailing: email@example.com or by calling: 01572 720 991.
