Thefts from Parking Machines Condemned

Rutland County Council has condemned a number of thefts from pay and display ticket machines in Oakham car parks.

Cash boxes in three ticket machines in Oakham were broken into on 13 November. Several hundred pounds is thought to have been stolen as a result, in addition to the cost of repairing the damaged machines.

“We’re outraged that petty criminals have targeted parking machines in this way – causing damage and stealing public money. The use of cash to pay for parking is falling as more and more people make use of mobile payment options but the theft is by no means small and is utterly reprehensible. We have CCTV covering car parks and are working with the police.”
Councillor Lucy Stephenson, Portfolio Holder for Highways & Transport

Rutland County Council is taking steps to improve the security of ticket machines in all pay a display car parks in response to the incidents.

Anyone with any information about the thefts can contact Leicestershire Police by calling 101 and quoting the reference number: 18000551833.
