There will be temporary rolling road closures in and around Oakham on Wednesday 17 August 2022.
The closures are needed to provide a safe route for a large funeral procession that will travel from Langham to Oakham Cemetery on Kilburn Road on Wednesday afternoon.
The procession will leave Langham at 2.30pm, travelling on foot. Rolling road closures will be put in place along Oakham Road (A606), Main Road (B640), Barleythorpe Road and Station Road at points during the procession, which is expected to last around one hour.
Rolling closures mean that roads and junctions along the route will only close as the procession approaches and will reopen once it has passed by.
Rutland County Council is working with Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service to oversee the procession route, manage vehicle movements and parking and maintain emergency access throughout.
Councillor Rosemary Powell, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Rutland County Council, said:
“This is a large event and we’re working closely with local partners to minimise the disruption to residents and road users. Please avoid Main Road, Barleythorpe Road and Station Road between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon, if you can. If you must use these routes then please allow extra time for your journey as we are expecting some delays.”
