Rutland County Council is warning residents not to give out their bank details over the phone following recent reports of cold callers posing as Council officers.

A large number of residents have contacted us to say they have received phone calls from people either telling them they are entitled to a Council Tax rebate, or posing as their bank.

“Rutland Council Council would never ask residents for banking information over the phone. If you are entitled to a rebate, residents would be contacted by letter.  We are urging residents to hang up if they receive a call like this and contact Action Fraud straight away to report the incident."
Councillor Gordon Brown, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Revenues and Benefits

Contact Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre, on 0300 123 2040 or through the Action Fraud website.
