The Referendum on Adoption of a new Oakham and Barleythorpe Neighbourhood Plan will be held in two weeks’ time.

The Referendum takes place on Thursday 26 May 2022 for residents living in the Plan Area to decide on the question: Do you want Rutland County Council to use the neighbourhood plan for the Parishes of Oakham and Barleythorpe to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

Neighbourhood Planning gives local communities the opportunity to shape development in their area through the Localism Act 2011. Full details of the proposed Oakham and Barleythorpe Neighbourhood Plan can be found online at: www.rutland.gov.uk/neighbourhoodplans

Anyone with questions about the Plan is advised to contact Oakham Town Council.

More than 50% of the votes cast must be in favour of the Neighbourhood Plan to bring it into force. As the Local Planning Authority, Rutland County Council must formally adopt the Plan within eight weeks of the referendum.

Further details can be found in the full Notice of Referendum, published online at:  www.rutland.gov.uk/elections-and-referendums

Polling stations in the referendum will not have copies of the Neighbourhood Plan and polling staff will not be able to answer questions about the proposals.
