Election results

Local Elections for Rutland County Council took place on Thursday 2 May 2019, with ten of the County’s 15 electoral wards contested.

The results of the election are as follows:

Barleythorpe – Contested
The following candidates were elected: 

  • Dave BLANKSBY (Independent)
  • Sue WEBB (Independent)

Braunston & Martinsthorpe – Contested

The following candidates were elected:

  • Edward BAINES (Conservative)
  • William CROSS (Conservative)

Cottesmore - Contested
The following candidates were elected:

  • Samanth HARVEY (Conservative)
  • Abigail MACARTNEY (Liberal Democrats)

Exton - Uncontested
The following candidate was elected:

  • June Fox (Conservative)

Greetham - Uncontested
The following candidate was elected:

  • Nick BEGY (Conservative)

Ketton - Contested
The following candidates were elected:

  • Gordon BROWN (Conservative)
  • Karen PAYNE (Conservative)

Langham - Contested
The following candidate was elected:

  • Oliver HEMSLEY (Conservative)

Lyddington - Contested

Normanton - Uncontested

Oakham North East - Contested

Oakham North West - Uncontested

Oakham South – Contested

Ryhall and Casterton - Uncontested
The following candidates were elected:

  • Chris PARSONS (Independent)
  • David WILBY (Conservative)

Uppingham - Contested
The following candidates were elected:

  • Miranda JONES (Green)
  • Marc OXLEY (Independent)
  • Lucy STEPHENSON (Conservative)

Whissendine - Contested
The following candidate was elected: 

  • Rosemary POWELL (Independent)

The Count for Rutland’s 2019 Local Elections took place at Victoria Hall in Oakham on Friday 3 May and was completed at 4.40pm.

Overall turnout for the election was 37.36%. The ward with the highest overall turnout was Lyddington (48%).

Rutland County Council issued 2,996 Postal Votes in the run-up to the election, of which 1,867 (62.3%) were returned.

 Rutland County Council has 27 seats and, following the election, now comprises: 15 Conservative councillors, eight Independent councillors, three Liberal Democrat councillors and one Green councillor.

Councillors will gather at Rutland’s Annual Council meeting on Monday 13 May to elect a Chairman, Leader and other key positions for the new administration.
