The government has published education guidance for schools, colleges and local authorities confirming which workers are classed as operating in key sectors.
Schools are being asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children who are either vulnerable or who have a parent that is a ‘key worker’, and therefore critical to the COVID-19 response.
These key worker provisions for education are only intended for children who cannot be safely cared for at home.
Many parents in key worker roles may still be able to care for their child at home and parents are being urged to keep their children at home, wherever possible. This is so that schools can remain open and provide a sustainable level of care for those who absolutely need to attend.
Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.
