Rutland County Council has received the Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award for its continued support of the armed forces community.

The Silver Award is given to employers that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant. It is the second highest accolade issued by the Ministry of Defence as part of its Employer Recognition Scheme, which encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same.

December 2017 saw the re-signing of the Armed Forces' Community Covenant by Rutland County Council and local partners, reaffirming their continued support for the Armed forces community.

The Covenant aims to help both active and retired members of the armed forces community to have the same access to government and commercial services and products as any other citizen.

The Council also works closely with each of the four army regiments currently based in Rutland – 1st Military Working Dogs Regiment and 2 Medical Regiment at St George’s Barracks in North Luffenham, and 2 The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment and 7 Regiment the Royal Logistic Corps at nearby Kendrew Barracks in Cottesmore – and offers a discount scheme on goods and services in the area to armed forces members and their families.

“The armed forces do an incredible job in difficult and often dangerous circumstances. This is fully appreciated by our staff and local communities, who are rightly proud of the men and women who protect our country. To receive a Silver Award as part of the Employer Recognition Scheme is a huge honour and shows just how committed we are at every level of the Council when it comes to supporting the armed forces community.”
Councillor Richard Foster, Rutland Armed Forces Champion
