Braunston Road planning decision will not be reconsidered

Rutland County Council’s Planning Committee voted to grant planning permission for a development of 62 dwellings at land off Braunston Road, Oakham, on 6 July 2021 (2020/1473).

A subsequent and unrelated decision by Full Council to withdraw Rutland’s Submitted Local Plan from independent examination prompted the Chairman of the Planning Committee to request that planning approval for the Braunston Road development be bought back to the committee for reconsideration, if this was lawful and possible.

Having sought further legal advice on this matter, the Committee has been formally notified that the Braunston Road application cannot lawfully be reconsidered:

  1. The need for this site remains, to deliver housing to help meet the requirement for a five-year housing land supply as required by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF)
  2. The site’s suitability was demonstrated by both the evidence base for Rutland’s Submitted Local Plan and in the assessment of the planning application

As a result, the decision to grant planning permission for the Braunston Road development will not be reconsidered and the item has been withdrawn from Planning Committee on Monday 4 October 2021.
