CCTV

CCTV in Rutland and how to request footage

Rutland's CCTV coverage uses a range of CCTV technology which helps to prevent and detect crime, public disorder, anti-social behaviour, theft and to keep people, property and assets safe.

Our control centre monitors and records all footage from our camera network - we operate public space CCTV in Oakham and Uppingham. We have 26 cameras across Rutland - all cameras are obvious and clearly identifiable with Rutland County Council signage.

We have direct links to the police and other agencies and use camera footage to prevent and detect crime, public disorder, antisocial behaviour, theft and more.

Code of practice

To make sure our service is fully accountable and the public can have trust in the use of CCTV, we follow the CCTV Code of Practice.

The code sets out:

  • how the service is managed
  • how the service operates on a day to day basis
  • protects access to information - we take data protection and personal privacy very seriously

How to request CCTV footage

You have the right to get a copy of information that's held about you - this includes CCTV footage of you in public spaces.

Footage can sometimes be needed for civil investigations or claims - restrictions apply, and footage will not be released if it:

  • infringes on another person's privacy rights
  • impacts a criminal investigation

To request footage, you must submit a Subject Access Request.
