The community right to bid gives local communities the ability to nominate assets to be registered as an asset of community value

The community right to bid gives local communities the ability to nominate assets to be registered as an asset of community value.

An asset of community value could be a building or piece of land that is (or has within the last five years) been used for the benefit of the community. 

It should help the progress or development of at least one of these aspects of the local community:

  • social wellbeing
  • culture
  • recreation
  • sport

Nominating an asset

Organisations that can make a nomination are:

  • charities
  • community groups with at least 21 members who are registered to vote in Rutland, and has a connection to the asset being nominated
  • town and parish councils
  • local neighbourhood forums
  • companies limited by guarantee
  • community interest companies
  • industrial and provident societies

Your nomination must include certain information:

  • the address of the property, building or land being nominated
  • details of the owner and current occupants
  • the extent of the site, and its proposed boundaries
  • why you feel it is an asset of community value
  • evidence of your eligibility to nominate

What counts as an asset of community value?

A building or piece of land has community value if:

  • it's used further the social wellbeing, cultural, recreational or sporting interests of the local community
  • it will continue to further these interests
  • furthering these community interests is its main use
