Barleythorpe Ward

As a result of the vacancy for the Barleythorpe Ward of Rutland County Council District Council, there will now by a by-election which will take place on 24 July 2025.   Notices relating to the by-election will be posted below:

To be able to vote in this election, if it is contested, you must register to vote by midnight on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.

If you would like to vote in a polling station, you will need to produce valid photo ID - you can find out more about voter ID on the Electoral Commission website.

Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or Anonymous Elector's Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday, 16 July 2025. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate can be made online.

People who are unable to use the internet can contact our elections team for information about voter ID: elections@rutland.gov.uk or call 01572 720954.

Postal voting

If the election is contested, you can vote by post and we must receive your postal vote application by 5pm on Wednesday, 9 July 2025.

If your proxy wants to vote by post, you must appoint them before they can apply to vote by post - please make sure you leave enough time for this. The deadline for them to apply to vote by post as a proxy is 5pm on Wednesday, 9 July 2025.

Please note: they will need to contact the electoral services team using the details below for more details, and to request a further application form.

If the election is contested, postal votes will be sent out on or around Thursday, 3 July 2025 with a second run being issued after the deadline for applications noted above.

From Friday, 18 July 2025, you can email elections@rutland.gov.uk or call the elections team if your postal vote:

  • is lost
  • is damaged - you'll need to return your damaged postal vote and bring proof of your identity to collect the replacement
  • has been stolen
  • has not arrived

If you want to cancel your postal vote, you'll need to put this in writing to us (including a wet ink signature) by 5pm on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, or you will not be able to vote at the polling station. You can either:

  • post your cancellation request to: Elections, Rutland County Council, Catmose, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6HP
  • scan and email your cancellation request to: elections@rutland.gov.uk
  • request a cancellation form: call 01572 720954

If you are too late to return your postal vote via Royal Mail you can also deliver yours and up to five other postal vote(s) by hand to:

  • our Catmose offices, during normal office hours (9:00am to 4:30pm [4.15pm on Friday's]) up to and including polling day (24 July 2025) – please note you can no longer simply post your postal vote through a council letter box or leave it at reception. For a postal vote to be accepted you will need to ensure you speak to an authorised person in our reception area and complete a form. More details about the revised regulations can be found on the Electoral Commission website
  • the polling station, on polling day (24 July 2025 - 7am to 10pm), where you will be required to complete a form with the Presiding Officer for your postal vote to be accepted

Please be aware that any postal votes delivered that are not accompanied by the required form must be rejected.

Proxy Voting

To vote by proxy, we must receive your application by 5pm on Wednesday, 16 July 2025.

Your proxy must attend your polling station to vote on your behalf unless they apply for a postal vote - see procedure above.

To change or cancel your proxy, you must do so in writing and provide a wet ink signature and your date of birth, then deliver to the elections office at Catmose, or scan a copy and email to: elections@rutland.gov.uk by 5pm on Wednesday, 9 July 2025.

Barrowden Parish Council

Uppingham Town Council

There were seven vacancies in the office of parish councillor for Uppingham. An election was called in July 2024 for which four candidates stood validly nominated and were elected unopposed. Eight further elections were held with one candidate at the 10 April 2025 election and one at the 29th May 2025 election standing validly nominated and elected unopposed. One vacancy still remains and a further election was due to be held on 17 July 2025 but there were no candidates at the close of nominations.  A further election will be scheduled in due course within 35 days of 17 July 2025 to fill the remaining vacancy. Nomination packs are now available from the elections office at Rutland County Council, please call 01572 720954 or email elections@rutland.gov.uk to obtain a pack. Completed nomination packs must be returned by no later than 4pm on Friday, 20 June 2025.
