The application process

The application process for starting primary school in September 2025 is now open.

• if your child was born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021 you must submit an application for them to start primary school in September 2025 by the national closing date
• the national closing date for submitting an application is 15 January 2025
• if you want to delay your child's start at primary school, you must still submit an application but request that their admission to primary school is delayed - more information can be found in our deferred entry guidance
• it doesn't matter how soon you submit your application as long as you submit it by the closing date - all applications received by the closing date will be treated equally
• each local authority is responsible for coordinating primary school admissions for children living in their area.

Closing date for applications

• the national closing date for applications is 15 January 2025

If you live in Rutland

• you must submit your application to us even if you want to apply for a school in another area
• you can apply online by visiting our admissions portal
• our admissions brochure is available to provide you with full details of the application process and details of the schools available to you in Rutland
• if you don't want to submit your application online, you can complete the paper application form. Please note that if you choose this option you will receive your offer of a school place after those parents who apply online as you will need to wait for your offer letter to arrive in the post.
