Starting primary school in September 2024

The application process for starting primary school in September 2024 is now open.

• if your child was born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020, they are eligible to start primary school in September 2024
• you must submit an application for them to start primary school by the national closing date
• the national closing date is 15 January 2024
• it doesn't matter how soon you submit your application as long as you submit it by the closing date - all applications received by the closing date will be treated equally

The national closing date for applications is 15 January 2024

Each local authority is responsible for coordinating primary school admissions for children living in their area who will be starting primary school in September 2024.

If you live in Rutland:

• if your child attends a pre-school or nursery in Rutland we have sent a letter to you providing details of the application process. If you have not received a letter, please contact us
• you must submit your application to us even if you want to apply for a school in another area
• the application form allows you to submit up to 3 preferences of primary school
• you can apply online by visiting our admissions portal
• our Admissions Brochure is available to provide you with full details of the application process and details of the schools available to you in Rutland
• we have produced a video which explains how your application for a school place will be processed
• if you don't want to submit your application online, you can complete the paper application form. Please note that if you choose to apply using the paper application form you will receive your offer of a school place after those parents who apply online as you will need to wait for your offer letter to arrive in the post
• there is an option for you to delay your child's start at primary school and we have produced guidance on deferred entry which explains the options available to you

If you live in another local authority area:

If you don't live in Rutland but want to apply for a Rutland primary school, you must submit an application to the council where you live (check your council's website for details).
