Refunds

How we process Council Tax refunds

It usually takes around 10 to 14 days for us to make a refund to you.

All refunds are made through BACS and usually appear in bank accounts on Tuesdays.

Before we issue your refund, we need to make sure:

  • you don't have any arrears or another liability to pay Council Tax
  • your liability end date has passed (we can't end your liability in advance)
  • any Direct Debit payments due have been paid
  • your circumstances are not likely to change in the near future
  • payments have been made by you
  • we are refunding the right person

If you previously paid by Direct Debit, we'll refund to that bank account.

If we're unsure whether you've closed your bank account or we do not hold your bank details, we'll send you a credit bill and ask you to complete a few details.

If you'd like us to send confirmation when your refund has been authorised, email localtaxation@rutland.gov.uk - please include your:

  • full name
  • full address
  • Council Tax account number

Scam alert

We will not ask you to give us your bank details over the phone. Please only give your bank details when you are certain who you are supplying them to.
