Find out if you may be entitled to money off your bill

Single person discount

If you're the only person aged over 18 living in your home, you can claim a 25% single person discount on your Council Tax.

This discount is awarded on your main home - not on second or empty homes.

If someone has left your home for a short period of time or intends to return in the future, you're not entitled to a discount.

How to apply

You can apply for a single person discount through MyAccount.

Council Tax single person discount review

We're reviewing Council Tax accounts where a single occupier discount is being claimed.

We know that most people are claiming the discount correctly. However, sometimes people forget to tell us when the number of adults living at their address changes. These changes could be because:

  • a partner has moved in
  • a relative or friend has moved in
  • a child has turned 18

If you've told us that you're the only adult resident at your property, you may receive an email or letter. The easiest way to reply is to text using the number and PIN provided to you. You can also complete an online form.
