Severely mentally impaired adults discount

If you live with an adult who has a severe mental impairment, you may be entitled to a Council Tax reduction.

Examples of a severe mental impairment include:

  • Alzheimer's
  • Parkinson's disease
  • severe learning disabilities
  • brain injury

To qualify, you'll need to:

  • get our certificate completed and signed by your GP to say you’re severely mentally impaired
  • prove your eligibility for certain benefits

Complete the application form and email to localtaxation@rutland.gov.uk or post to: Local Taxation, Rutland County Council, Catmose, Oakham, Rutland LE15 6HP.

Discount levels:

  • if all adults have a severe mental impairment, an exemption will apply
  • if all but one adult have a severe mental impairment, there's a 25% discount
  • if there are two or more adults who are still counted, there is no discount
