Rutland County Council’s Early Years team are hosting several drop-in events in February for residents to find out what support and services are available for children aged between birth and five in the county.
Rutland County Council's Early Years Service supports families with children aged between birth and five, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. Sessions taking place in February will share information about a range of areas including health, speech, SEND support and childcare. Anyone unable to attend the following events can access information via the Family Hub on familyhub@rutland.gov.uk, telephone 01572 758383 or by popping into the venue situated behind Oakham Library.

Space to play is a small, calm and supportive group for children under five who may struggle in a busy environment. The session offers peer support, advice and signposting for parents and sensory play for the children. These sessions take place every Tuesday.

Oakham Family Hub (situated behind Oakham Library)

The Family Hub in Oakham is a welcoming space where all families can get help. Come along to this drop-in session and find out what the Family Hub has to offer and what is taking place there. You can also join in with some sensory activities with your little one during the session.

Find out about support in Rutland and talk to experts about your child’s health and progress, learn how to support your child with speech and language, find out how your child can access a funded early years place and use the sensory play area.
There will be expert advice available on the day from the Healthy Together service, Infant Feeding specialist, Speech Therapist, Oral Health Nurse, Citizens Advice, the Family Centre, Parent Carer Voice, Early Years Inclusion Team, Family Hub, School Admissions, SEND services, Early Years settings, child minders and much, much more.

Bring your child along for story time and get help on choosing books for your little one. Books help children develop language skills and literacy, build empathy and learn how to deal with challenging feelings. This is a fun session where your child can join in on Storytime and explore the library.
Rutland County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children and Families, Cllr Tim Smith, said:
“This is a great opportunity for families to find more information about the wide range of resources available to parents in Rutland with young children. We hope that many families take this opportunity to join in on the fun activities with their little ones whilst being able to speak directly with experts in the area that can help guide them on any issues and answer their questions.’
