Rutland County Council’s next Bus Users Meeting on Wednesday 11 December will share information regarding the recently approved plans to transform the County’s public bus network.
The meeting will be held in the main Council Chamber at Rutland County Council’s Catmose Offices in Oakham and will take place from 11.00am to 12.30pm.
The meeting is open to the public, with no need to book or reserve a seat, and will start promptly at 11.00am start. A meeting link will be made available on the council’s website for those who wish to watch the meeting remotely. A video recording of the meeting will also be made available on the Council’s website after the meeting.
Rutland County Council’s Cabinet met on 12 November to approve an ambitious Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) that aims increase access to public transport. This includes trialling a new Dynamic Demand Responsive Travel (DDRT) service by Spring 2025.
DDRT uses smaller vehicles, like minibuses, to offer flexible public transport in some areas, rather than a traditional bus service. It will operate in several zones around the County that help to connect villages with main bus routes, which then provide onward travel to larger destinations. The new service will use existing bus stops in these areas as pick-up and drop-off points, with passengers able book their journeys in advance – either online or by phone.
“Our Bus Users Group meetings are a great way to share information with passengers, as well as answering questions and receiving feedback. This latest meeting gives us an opportunity to talk to passengers about our Bus Service Improvement Plan, after it was given the go-ahead last month. Operating a rural bus network is particularly challenging right now but we’re determined to provide the best service that we can. Please come along to the meeting, if you can. All the information will be made available afterwards for those who can’t attend.”
Councillor Christine Wise, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Communities
