Rutland County Council is working in partnership with Oakham Town Council and Uppingham Town Council to provide free parking in all council-owned public car parks for Christmas events and on Saturdays in December.
The plans are intended to support local businesses in the run-up to Christmas, which includes key dates like Small Business Saturday and late-night shopping events.
Free parking for late-night shopping will be available in Oakham and Uppingham on the following dates and times. All on-street parking restrictions will remain in place as normal:
- Late Night Shopping Uppingham – 5 December 2024 from 3pm
- Late Night Shopping Oakham – 9 December 2024 from 3pm
Parking will also be free in Council car parks on 7 December for Small Business Saturday. This national initiative aims to promote local business during the festive season, as well as encouraging residents to support shops within their local area.
The remaining free parking dates in December are Saturday 14 and Saturday 21 December. Pre-paid sessions cannot be refunded and all on-street parking restrictions apply as normal.
Free parking on 7 December and from 3.00pm for local late-night shopping events is being funded by Rutland County Council. Free parking on 14 and 21 December is being funded by Oakham and Uppingham Town Councils.
Rutland County Council’s Civil Enforcement Officers are key to offering free parking in the run-up to Christmas. Their work ensures that car parks are paid for all year round, which then helps events such as this to take place.
Short-term parking in one or two-hour limited waiting bays on-street will be available as usual in both towns and will be enforced to allow turnover of visitors.
