Brooke Road pedestrian arrangements

Rutland County Council and Burmor Construction Ltd have issued the following joint statement regarding Brooke Rd pedestrian arrangements

Rutland County Council and Burmor Construction Ltd have received queries from members of the public asking why pedestrians cannot use Brooke Road Level Crossing while tree, highway and utility works are taking place as part the Brooke Road Allotments Development.

Both parties agree that safety is the absolute priority while such extensive works are taking place along a busy road and footpath, in close proximity to the railway.

In the interests of safety for pedestrians and the workforce on site, it is necessary to suspend both foot and vehicle travel over the level crossing. This will avoid any risk of confusion and the potential for a serious accident to occur. Both parties are in agreement that this is the safest course of action during the closure of Brooke Road.

Areas of responsibility

For clarity, areas of responsibility including communication relating to the closure of Brooke Road in Oakham are as follows:

Burmor Construction Ltd 

Site management, including traffic management associated with the road closure and progress of the improvement works on the Highway at Brooke Road.

National Rail 

Responsible for the protection of rail infrastructure and rail safety.

Rutland County Council 

Brooke Road Allotments planning application, including the Brooke Road improvement works agreement, which includes tree management and the provision of the Temporary Traffic Management Order.
