Step back into the history of the modern Olympic Games at Rutland County Museum as a dedicated exhibition highlights the achievements of a young sailor from Rutland, John Merricks, who won silver in the 1996 Atlanta Games.

John Merricks was a young talent from Rutland Water Sailing Club, who’s amazing sporting career was tragically cut short in a car accident a year after winning his silver medal.

The highlight of the exhibition, which runs until 28 September, is his Olympic medal. The medal is a recent donation by his family to the museum’s permanent collection, along with some of his official GB Olympic costume and ephemera.

Rutland County Museum is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Entry is completely free for visitors of all ages.
