We understand that some of our residents are concerned about the removal of several trees along Brooke Road in Oakham.

The removal of these trees by Burmor Construction Limited is needed to allow the developer to improve the surrounding highway layout as part of the Brooke Road Allotments Development.

The removal of these trees was approved by the Council’s Planning Committee in August 2020, after the independent Planning Inspectorate had reviewed the developer’s initial application and confirmed this did not provide sufficient reason why planning permission should not be granted. This was followed by Reserved Matters approval to remove additional trees near the entrance of the development, granted in August 2022.

The Brooke Road Allotments Development is to be made up of 40 new affordable homes and will see more than a dozen new trees planted on the site, to make up for any loss of existing trees during construction.
