Rutland’s annual Armed Forces flag raising will take place in the grounds of Oakham Castle on Monday 24 June to mark the beginning of national Armed Forces Week.
The event will be attended by Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland Mrs Jeannette Warner and High Sheriff of Rutland Richard Cole, together with representatives from Rutland County Council, Town and Parish Councils, the Royal British Legion and Veterans.
A short ceremony will take place in the grounds of Oakham Castle from 10.15am, after which the Armed Forces flag will be raised by personnel from 1 Royal Anglian Regiment.
This event is open to all members of the public who want to join and show their much-valued support for serving personnel, veterans and their families.
The Armed Forces community makes up more than 15% of Rutland’s total population, with Reservists accounting for around one sixth of this. Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces and are ready to support the military when needed.
