Rutland County Council’s Cabinet have approved an increase to the annual charge for green waste services, to come into effect from April 2024.

Proposals of an annual charge of £60 per bin covering the cost of green waste collection were discussed at Cabinet on Tuesday 14th November 2023.

The charge will allow Rutland County Council to cover the cost of providing the service, which includes investment in our green waste collection vehicles.

“As a Council, it’s important we look practically at non-statutory services like green waste collection. Our aim is to continue to deliver these optional services for residents, whilst ensuring that we don’t put extra pressures on other statutory services that are vital to our community. We therefore need to cover costs of providing the optional green waste service.

“We feel that a charge of £5 per month for green waste services is fair and reasonable. It allows us to cover rising costs of providing the service, which includes investing in the green waste collection vehicle, and is in line with what neighbouring authorities charge.”

Councillor Christine Wise, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and the Environment

Rutland’s scheme is subscription-based for those who choose to join, with an annual renewal process at the beginning of each service year. There continues to also be a 25% discount for anyone on local Council Tax support.
